Media orgs sign on to Canadian Screen Industry Statement of Values

More than 73 of Canada’s leading media organizations have signed on to a shared Canadian Screen Industry Statement of Values, a unified vision for the sector’s future grounded in equity, representation, sustainability, and accountability.

The statement was unveiled Monday at the Banff World Media Festival by Joan Jenkinson, CEO of the Black Screen Office (BSO); Christa Dickenson, CEO of CPAC; and Mike Omelus, Executive Director of Content and Strategy at APTN.

It reflects 11 shared values – Representation, Reflection, Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity, Access, Support, Collaboration, Sustainability, Accountability, and Showcasing Canadian Stories to the World — committing signatories to implement those values in ways that suit their own organizational mandates.

Among those signing on are Telefilm Canada, Canada Media Fund (CMF), CBC/Radio-CanadaBell MediaAPTNNational Film Board (NFB), the Indigenous Screen Office (ISO), Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA), and the Association québécoise de la production médiatique (APQM), among others.

This isn’t about optics—it’s fundamentally about principle and values,” said Dickenson, in an announcement. “The Statement is a reflection of the principles we want to live by as an industry. Not just in words, but in action, through hiring, partnerships, content, and culture.”

“At a time when we’re seeing retrenchment from diversity and inclusion around the world, Canada’s screen industry is stepping forward,” added Jenkinson. “We didn’t just write a statement—we built consensus. That meant late nights, tough conversations, legal review, and cross-sector alignment. And we did it. Together.”

Participating organizations will continue to meet to track progress. The statement is open to additional organizations across the screen sector. Add your organization here.
