WABE conference on the move due to labour dispute

WABE is making lemonade!

Tessa PotteWABE is making lemonade!

This past month we learned that the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel has no timeline to end their labor dispute before our Nov. 27th-29th Conference in Vancouver.

The WABE committee has had to think on their feet, adapt and take this lemon and move this year’s conference to a new location in Vancouver.

WABE continues outreach in the Vancouver market and feels this experience will bring about new conversation, new ideas and introduces the organization to new friends.

Here is what the new mixture entails:

This change has allowed us to keep the conference dates the same Nov. 27-29th so no need to change flights if you’re traveling from afar.

The hotel room rates are similar although rooms are more limited and in the coming days we are working on neighbouring hotels for overflow see our Hotel & Travel Discount section of our website for further details after Sept. 10th. No need to contact the Sheraton to cancel your reservation, we will do this for you.

If you are one of our valued Sponsors or exhibiting vendors, we will be having an info session Sept. 7th, 1 p.m. MT. For those that miss the meeting, I will be reaching out directly.

We have an almost full program schedule that we will release Sept. 15th and Early Bird registration is open until Halloween. Register to take in the full conference experience or come take in the papers for the day!

WABE also is encouraging submissions to our awards to recognize and celebrate exceptional achievements and contributions in media and entertainment technology in Canada. The WABE Awards celebrate those who motivate and inspire others to strive for excellence and continuous improvement. WABE is proud to celebrate members who attend the conferences by highlighting best practices and innovative approaches as well as promoting the growth and development of the industry.

I can’t wait to see everyone in Vancouver this Fall!

All my best,

Tessa Potter

Tessa is a broadcast technician who has spent 20 years working for a variety of wonderful folks in a challenging—but very rewarding—career in media. A Red River College Electronics Engineering Technologist grad, she is the one pulling cables in far off places at international sporting events, visiting a transmitter site on a winter day or solving technical problems with team members on a hockey game day. Working on the WABE Executive is a 6-year volunteer commitment that starts as Secretary Treasure, moves to President and then Past President. Tessa holds the roll for the next two years as President of WABE and with the committee is looking forward to helping the organization continue to meet its mandate.
